Summer does not want to go away.
It wants to bloom and stay.
Our last warm day was bursting with color,
as if the flowers somehow knew,
and decided to put on a show.
Fall leaves have not yet turned into colors.
That is unusually late here in New England.
No wonder summer is having a last hurrah.
I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ Riot of colours
“And summer’s lease has all too short a date”
Nature seems to bent on it’s destruction of so much of the earth that it has forgotten to start Fall.
We can keep Summer alive in our hearts and in our memories are and in a blanket sitting next to the fire…
Lovely colours, Jennie. We have few brown leaves yet, but the acrorns are falling like bullets, and it is only 50 degrees at the high. Autumn has arrived in Beetley, and no mistake.
Best wishes, Pete.
Our autumn hasn’t arrived either. I like the summer flowers, but fall is my favorite time of year– and I want all of it I can get.
We just got word of more 100-degree days. So summer is not finished with us yet. Lovely flowers.
Those are lovely! Fall is starting to show up here with cooler temperatures, and a light rain this morning!
and when a breeze makes they flutter, they are waving goodbye.
A last hurrah for summer here, as our evenings have gotten cooler. Hopefully, the warm days and cool night combo will make for some spectacular leaf watching. Your flowers definitely are trying to compete for “best colors of the year.” Enjoy them, Jennie!
Yes, indeed. The flower competition recently seems pretty intense. I will enjoy every moment of their summer beauty. Unfortunately our dry summer will probably result in a less brilliant fall leaf color. Best to you, Bruce.
I know fall is a beautiful time of the year, but I am never in a hurry to see summer go away…
your flowers are amazing!
I feel exactly the same way! And, thank you.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful images of summer, Jennie.
I’m glad you enjoyed them, Dan.
and what a show! beautiful
Indeed! Thank you.
Here’s to Nature’s last hurrahs! Beautiful blooms.
Yes, and thank you!
Beautiful colors—one last summer fling. I hope your school year is off to a good start.
It always seems like the last colors are especially beautiful. The school year started off a bit rocky with Covid- teachers and children. Having subs is hard when you’re trying to build a relationship and classroom continuity. And for the children who were sick, they missed so much. Masks were mandated, which is hard for young children. By the end of this week things should start to feel normal again. Sigh!
I’m so sorry, Jennie. I empathize with your school, especially since the start of the year is when those critical bonding moments and sense of family begin.
Thanks, Pete. This is our first no-mask week, which makes a world of difference. The process of taking masks off for outside play, rest time, and eating, and keeping them in separate bags is as hard as wearing masks. So, at last there’s a rainbow.🙂 Now those critical bonding moments can begin!! Tomorrow night is Parent Night.
Gerbera daisies are my favorite flower!
P.S. Please stop by my blog to confirm your winning!
My favorite flower, too! I am so behind on reading blogs. I had no idea I won!! Apologies for being very late, and thank you! 🙂
You’re welcome! When you comment, could you let me know if you want the book signed to someone specific?
Thank you so much! Apologies that I have been behind. Bear books are my absolute favorite picture books, so this is quite a treat for me. I commented on your blog post.
Hurrahh for sure! Beauties!
Beautiful, Jennie. I love the gerbras at the top.
They’re one of my favorites. 🙂
What colours! Flowers are always so pleasing to the eyes
Yes, they are.
Hi Jennie, lovely pictures and beautiful words to go with them.
Thank you, Robbie.
Wow, such a potpourri (I love that word) of color. I hope ‘summer’ keeps on hanging on (I know, a preposition at the end is frowned upon…in some circles).
Yes, it is! I will enjoy the blooms till their end. I like your expression, and the preposition at the end makes it all the better. 🙂
I love your different angles of the blooming flowers and cheers to any delay of fall (in my opinion)
Hooray, and I’m with you on delaying fall.
Reblogged this on NEW BLOG HERE >> https:/BOOKS.ESLARN-NET.DE.
Thank you, Michael!
Amazing! It looks like you are living in a botany garden. It must be wonderful to have so much flowers around. Best wishes, Michael
It really feels that way. We had some late and much needed rain, and the flowers exploded. I think they were sending a message. Best to you, Michael.
Those flowers are so beautiful!
Thank you, Marlene!
