My local library has a huge mural on their main wall in the children’s room. When you enter, it is across the way, in full view for people to see. It is bigger than life and attracts everyone.
Including me.
The mural is a painting in an attic. In the far corner a man is entering and discovers… well, you’ll see. All the items in the attic are from children’s books. Some are fairly easy to spot, others are tricky.

The one that stumped me was Virginia Lee Burton’s The Little House.

What an intriguing way to pique interest in books! I’m wondering if someone (like myself) wanted to know what book went with a certain set of items, if there’s some sort of ‘key’ available? Or, if just asking the librarian would offer the names of said books?
You are probably overthinking. This is a magnificent I Spy, which includes children’s books and picture books. For us ‘oldsters’ most books are familiar. Asking a librarian would help, but you probably know the names of these books.

What a delightful mural. I think every library should have one. I like the man coming up the attic with the lantern to be surprised by the treasures up there. Does the mural acknowledge the artist?

You’re right about it grabbing one’s attention. I honestly didn’t recognize many of them, but that’s not that surprising since you read far more picture books than me.
It’s definitely an attention grabber. These are not all picture books. Many are classic children’s books. There are some I haven’t found yet. I love an I Spy.
this is a wonderful mural, Jennie. I recognize a lot of the items but not all. Some may be from books I don’t know. Is the man’s half in the cupboard from The Indian in the Cupboard?

It’s in the third photograph to the right of the man and baby coming through the trapdoor. He’s partially hidden by the red coat.
I see what you mean. I don’t think that’s the one from Indian in the Cupboard. I actually thought the open yellow cupboard above the man was that book. The next time I go to the library, I will have to look at that tiny figure in the cupboard. Is it an Indian? My photo is too poor to show detail.
