From One Superhero to Another

Riley and I are the two non-Captain America Superheroes in this photo.  But day in and day out, Riley is the real Superhero, the one who is always brave, helps her friends, and leads the way.  Always.  And with a smile.

Maybe Riley thinks I am a Superhero, too.  She told me so today.

Thank you, Riley.  I want everybody to be like you when they grow up.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

How beautiful is that , having Riley and friends voting you Super hero.
How right they are, seeing heroes in real people and their work.

Jennie, you are the true superhero. Teaching young minds to question and pursue answers, reading, the gift that gives for a lifetime, and the fact that you do it all from your heart. The children know this. Hopefully, some of them will follow in your footsteps. Why wouldn’t they? They learned from one of the best.

That is so nice, Lea. Thank you. If I give children the power to be what they want to be, and the power of goodness, then they are heroes, too.

You really are a superhero Jennie – the best!

  11. Riley is super smart for her age to know that already. 😉 I agree with her. You are a superhero without a costume most of the time.

When they grow up, or when they are small, it really doesn’t matter at all, kindness is the best superpower by far. Congratulations for instilling it, Jennie.

  16. All children need to have superheroes that they can look up to. You are a great leader for them and one who is giving them the best gifts children can get. Thank you so much forever and ever.

My little boy is obsessed with superheroes and the moment and loves dressing up in his capes and masks and going on “missions”. Yesterday he made me put a Spider-Man cape on to go on my mission of cleaning up the kitchen after lunch.

  18. The best ones sure are. You’re the bestest! This is so sweet!

  19. They are so right, Jennie! You are really a superhero, managing this all over years for the benefits of generations. Thank you! Michael
