Gloria’s first day back-to-school is tomorrow. She is excited! She has a new face mask with dragonflies. I can tell she’s nervous. I have been reassuring her all day that everything will be fine, and I’ve also been listening to her worries. Stay tuned for tomorrow.
For my new bloggers who are not familiar with Gloria, the is a hallmark in my classroom. She brings to children diversity, understanding and acceptance. She joined the classroom after she had been called a ‘witch’ by other children.
Yes, I know, that is shocking. My preschoolers felt the same way.
Frankly, she is beloved. She’s the kindest person I know.
I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

How lovely to see the return of Gloria! I hope she has been keeping well.
Thank you, Liz. I will tell her you said so. 🙂
Aww Gloria I have missed you. Lovely to see you safe and well and with a mask
Aww Jennie you are such a wonderful teacher and person.
Thank you! I will tell Gloria you have missed her. ❤️
Welcome back, Gloria! Love the 😷
Thank you, Alethea! I love her mask, too.
Yay, it’s good to see her again!
Thank you, Beth!
Would it ruin her status if she swapped out the witch’s hat for a Tilly hat? No matter, it’s so great to see her again. I bet the kids will be thrilled. It’s thoughtful of her to wear a mask and show the kids that it’s okay to do that.
Her hat is sewn on and can’t be removed. What is a Tilly hat? It is great to see her back. I think tomorrow will be exciting!
Sorry, I spelled it wrong. It’s a Tilley hat and you can see one here on amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/Sunday-Afternoons-Cruiser-Chaparral-Large/dp/B005U2V2EQ/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwoJX8BRCZARIsAEWBFMICfNhTidWrgBZgf5TXS04GbD2IB-vEohf3sLE5iF7eZd3r8oDJfgEaAoVvEALw_wcB&hvadid=229998960959&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001614&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=11196880718580680505&hvtargid=kwd-297262928281&hydadcr=3167_10309673&keywords=tilley+hat&qid=1602641749&sr=8-3&tag=googcana-20
Oh! Thanks, Anneli.
Welcome back, Gloria…you’re looking as lovely as ever with your mask on. The children are sure to be delighted to see you too! ❤
That’s so nice, Bette. I will pass your words on to Gloria. ❤️
Hugs and kisses all around, too… ❤
Good luck Gloria! I love this idea!
Children learn by seeing. And they can see how wonderful Gloria is at handling this pandemic. We all can take comfort from that.
Thank you so much, Pam. Your words are always a breath of fresh air combined with common sense.
Thank you my friend.
You’re welcome! 🥰
Welcome back, Gloria.. Love your mask 🎭🙏
Thank you, Carol!
Dragon fly mask…I know there’s a story in there somewhere!
Dear Gloria: Tomorrow: Take a deep breath and remember the kiddos love you…once you begin, it’ll all roll naturally.
I can’t wait to ask Gloria about her dragonfly mask. Thank you for your words to Gloria. I will pass them on to her. She will love it!
Welcome back, Gloria. Good to see you again. Thanks for sharing Gloria, Jennie.
Thank you, John. 🙂
Tell Gloria I said she’s looking gorgeous and stylish in that dragonfly mask!🤗
Will do, Kim! 😍
Good luck Gloria! What a beautiful idea and way to lead the pack in changing the world we know for the better!!! Not only is Gloria beautiful, so is your kind soul!
I know it will be a wonderful day! 🥰
ThNk you, Deborah! 🥰
Very sweet…Gloria clearly has many good things coming her way!
Thank you! I think she does.
I hope you have a great first day, Gloria 🥰
Thanks, Ritu! 😍
I’m excited to hear about another year of Gloria’s experiences. I’m so glad that she is setting such a great example of wearing a facemask to the children while also so stylish.
Thank you, Pete. I’m sure there will be stories to tell. I’m sad that children can’t hold her during the pandemic.
Great teaching aid Jennie! Does she have any other friends?
She has a sheep that a farmer gave her. That old sheep was grumpy until Gloria visited the farm. He would have nothing to do with anyone else. 🙂
sounds like me! What’s it’s name……..If any?
Rainbow. Named by the children, of course. And the sheep is completely white. 🙂
Its nice to know things are getting back to normal, Jennie. Bravo for Gloria.
I’m glad, too. The children won’t be able to hold her until the pandemic is over, but I think they’ll understand.
Great to see Gloria staying safe, and setting a good example with her mask.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thank you, Pete.
I’m glad to see you are able to bring Gloria back to add a bit more “normal” to your classroom life. Having her wear her mask will help with the normal of that too. Maybe she needs her own special hand sanitizer as well? I’m sure the children will have some ideas of what she needs to stay extra safe at this time
Thanks, Lori. Today was her first day, and it was wonderful. Leave it to children to understand and lead the way. They completely understood and loved the face mask. Hand sanitizer never came into play, as they were far more interested in getting to know this new and different person. Blog post pressed for first thing in the morning.
I love Gloria’s face mask. The kids will be so happy to see her. Tell her not to be nervous, she will do well. Give her a huge hug from me. xo
Thank you so much, Darlene. I did tell her not to be nervous. The kids loved her face mask. They were… well, all ended well. The post is first thing in the morning. I gave her a big hug from you. 🙂
Wonderful that Gloria is wearing a mask:)
I think she likes it. 🙂
Brilliant!! Gloria is going to practice mask safety and good social distancing skills with your new classroom. I’m so excited for all of you!! Gloria will very likely outshine all the teachers so take it with stride as usual. 😉 You made me smile big today. Wish I could see the kids faces.
Thank you, Marlene. I’m glad Gloria made you smile. She does love her mask. I posted a few photos today about her first day at school. The last one will melt your heart. ❤️
One of the sweetest ideas ever-and I love the mask!
Thank you, Michele!
She’s gorgeous. What a wonderful way to start a new year. Enjoy! Both (or all) of you.
Thank you, Norah. I will tell her you said so. Yes, it is a wonderful start to the school year.
Thank you, Jennie. I love Gloria just as much as your children do.
Aww…thank you, Norah!
OMG, Gloria is also wearing a mask. 😉 You should send a image to Washington D.C. Lol
She is!! 🙂
I absolutely love this! Xx
Gloria has the same beautiful spirit as the teacher…
C’est la vie! 😍📚
Welcome back Gloria! Good to see you back in the classroom.
Thank you, Kally. I will tell her you said so. 🙂
