Happy New Year, Gloria!

Hubby:  “Jennie, did Gloria have Christmas with an Aqua Roomer?”

Me:  “No, she did not.”

Long pause…

Hubby:  “And you didn’t bring her home to have Christmas with us?”

He was right.  I felt terrible.  Gloria was alone at school.

Me:  “I have to go in to school today.  I’ll bring Gloria home.  She can spend New Year’s Eve with us.”

I brought her home.  She was so happy!  I had to go to the store, so Hubby was in charge.  When I got home, this is what I saw:

They were watching football together.

Tonight I will read to Gloria.  She always wants Goodnight Moon, because that’s what she hears everyday at school.  It makes her feel good.

Tomorrow Gloria will pick what she wants to wear for New Year’s Eve.  She has tried on many costumes, and I think this is her favorite.

“Gloria, you look beautiful!  New Year’s Eve will be fun.  The new year will, too.  You know Zeb?  Faith’s zebra?

Guess what?  Zeb is lonely.  He heard you were lonely, too.  Zeb is coming here to visit you, all the way from Missouri.  He’s so excited!  I know the two of you will get along and have a grand time together.”

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

  11. Oh, so sweet. Happy New Year, Gloria.

  12. Genuine family moments – hubby with Gloria watching (in the best sleepyland way) football and then you reading Gloria a bedtime story. Perhaps this is her first New Year’s Eve with you, her forever family? May 2025 birth a whole generation of Glorias – ready to work their love in quiet, profound ways. I like to think you and I are already a part of it as an ‘older’ generation with Gloria leading the way… 🙂

  13. I’m glad Gloria is spending New Year’s with you. Happy New Year to you, Hubby, and Gloria.
