Letter From a Parent

A letter from a parent is always special.  When the parent is my pen-pal and former student’s mom, it’s very special.  When she bought a book I had recommended on this blog, that was the frosting on the cake.  I hope you enjoy the letter as much as I did.

Hi Jennie,

Hope this email finds you well!

We did receive your letter. It brings such a joy and big smile on Kiansh’s faces that it melts my heart every single time! Thank you for being his pen-pal and most importantly being there for him.

He loved pictures of Woody and already told me what he wants to write so we will be working on letter soon! 🥰

I personally wanted to thank you for sharing good books to read on your blog. If not weekly, couple times in a month I do check your blog! Every single of them I have loved to read! And I have to share this with you. We have friends whose daughter loves to read. She will be in 4th grade starting September and her birthday is in summer. So knowing her reading interest I was looking for a good book to gift her on her birthday! And reading your blog I learn about a book “Wonder”, and I decided to get that book as gift for her. Guess what? Today her mom send me this message, big thank you to you! 🙏🏻❤️ It’s less than a month we give a book to her…🪄

Hope you know that you are making such a big impact by writing on your blog! ❤️💗🙏🏻 Keep up the great work 🙏🏻!

Also will you be in the school this Thursday evening? Thursday is Kiansh’s last day for camp and also at GCS! I still remember his first day at Aqua Room and how it all started! Just wanted to stop bye to say good bye on Thursday before he embark on new phase and new venture! We will miss GCS and you 🥰! But I am sure he will continue to be your pen-pal 🖊️.

Warm Regards,
Priyanki

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

What a wonderful letter. Bravo on suggesting “Wonder” as a great book to gift a young person. It’s a book I have given as a gift a few times myself. I love that the families keep in touch with you. And we all know how special a letter is!

Thank you, Dan. You have seen our teachers and can attest to how much we care for children and their families. When that happens, letters like this one come along. It’s wonderful! This is proof that money doesn’t buy happiness.

Getting feedback like that is so rewarding. I can just imagine your emotions when you were reading that.
    Best wishes, Pete.

It is very rewarding, Pete. Yes, my emotions were ‘out there’. I had no idea she reads my blog and remembered my post on “Wonder”, which was an added big smile. Honestly, how many people get feedback like this in their jobs? Not many. I’m lucky to be a teacher.

  9. A super letter reflecting your dedication, Jennie.

  10. And that is why we do it. Well done, Jennie.

More lives touched, my friend. Parents do appreciate those who go the extra mile for their kids. You may remember that I blogged about this book: https://petespringerauthor.wordpress.com/2023/03/31/wonder-5-stars/
Imagine the age range from Kiansh to my seniors. Am I surprised when a book touches a large audience? Nope. A good book reaches across generations.

I definitely remember your wonderful blog post!! I thought of it as soon as I read this parent’s letter. Just think, our book recommendations reach out to people beyond the borders of WP. How cool is that? Like you, I also think a good book is for all ages. P.S., I just finished another winner of a book which I will post soon. Best to you, my friend!

I look forward to reading that post. I’m impressed with the quality of children’s books today and especially appreciate that authors are delving into largely unaddressed topics. I just finished a book called Good Different that is about autism. The author, Meg Eden Kuyatt, writes from personal experience. The notes from the author are particularly enlightening. https://www.amazon.com/Good-Different-Meg-Eden-Kuyatt/dp/1338816101

Thanks, Pete. I have mixed emotions on many of the newer books that deal with unaddressed topics. For younger children, the ‘indirect approach’ works best. Many newer picture books leave children confused or disinterested. For older children it’s a different story. We both know Wonder is a good example. I look forward to reading your link!
