Winter Sunset

At last, there was a winter sunset on the drive home from work at my favorite Sunset Farm intersection.  That means the days are getting longer.  At school we can now watch sunsets on the playground at the end of the day.  Sunsets are beautiful; their colors are magical, and just what we need to see at the end of a long day.  Looking at the sky with children is opening a window, because their wonder reminds us to stop and look.  The world is beautiful.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

I think we’re at the 6 pm mark when it’s still light enough to call it ‘day’. Heading in the right direction. Doesn’t it buoy spirits?

  5. What a wonderful place to view the sunset. It looks like it was a glorious one.

Nothing like a good sunset to soothe the soul. It’s nice that you can experience it with the children at school. xo

  10. the full moon is tomorrow night Jennie and you can thank the moon for our seasons.
Billions of years ago, the moon collided with Earth. This not only captured the moon in it’s orbit but also knocked our axis off centre. This off centre axis created our seasons.
So on those cold cold nights you can shake your fist at the moon and howl!

  11. I love that you enjoy them with your students.

Thank you, Cindy. The photo on my iPhone was more vibrant, especially by the trunk of the tree- the heart of the sun. I wish WP had captured the same thing. Still, it was a lovely sunset.

  12. This is just gorgeous, Jennie. Hugs.

Yes as Charlie mentioned yesterday “the dark is getting shorter!”

  16. Mireya says:

Yes I love to go outside after my day and look up at the moon. Like the other day I imagined that I sat in the crescent moon telling her my fears and my dreams…

A welcome sight that spring will be here soon.

  18. Great capture, Jennie. There is plenty of beauty on display in Winter…ya just gotta know where to find it…as this picture demonstrates!

What a beautiful sunset! We haven’t had a sunset all year thus far, primarily because we haven’t see much of the sun. It comes out once a week for a few hours, then gets covered by dreary clouds long before the time sunset might otherwise take place. Ah well … when it does happen, we’ll appreciate it more!

  20. Beautiful. There is a lot of peace in this photo. Best wishes, Michael

  21. Beautiful, Jennie. I love it when suddenly we’re put on notice that the days are getting longer! Woo hoo!
