About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

She is my favorite. I have her “People will forget what…. but will never forget how you made them feel” quotation right in front of me, on a plaque. I see it all the time- thank goodness. So do people who come into the house. This week the chimney cleaners came. As we’re going over the paperwork, he saw the plaque and told me what a great thing that is for someone to say. The guy was moved. See, Maya Angelou still lives on. I told him I was a preschool teacher and love reading books to children. He was excited to tell me his mom read to him. I asked him what book he remembered the most. He didn’t hesitate to say “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein.

Well, we had a big moment. Thank you, Maya Angelou.
