Today’s Quote

Soul Gatherings

Z 46

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers,

but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings.

The curriculum is so much necessary raw material,

but warmth is a vital element

for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over thirty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I am highlighted in the the new edition of Jim Trelease's bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at both the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, and the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital.

    • Jennie says:

She is my favorite. I have her ā€œPeople will forget what…. but will never forget how you made them feelā€ quotation right in front of me, on a plaque. I see it all the time- thank goodness. So do people who come into the house. This week the chimney cleaners came. As we’re going over the paperwork, he saw the plaque and told me what a great thing that is for someone to say. The guy was moved. See, Maya Angelou still lives on. I told him I was a preschool teacher and love reading books to children. He was excited to tell me his mom read to him. I asked him what book he remembered the most. He didn’t hesitate to say ā€œThe Giving Treeā€ by Shel Silverstein.

Well, we had a big moment. Thank you, Maya Angelou.
