Reading Aloud

A picture is worth a thousand words.

A good friend sent me this photo
reading to her grandchild.
It is never too early to read aloud to a child.
A child is never too young to hear words while seeing pictures.
Pleasure and learning, all the senses on alert.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

The act of reading aloud Is an act of love. A child may not understand the words but they understand the sound of the voice. It’s one of comfort and of love.

I agree very strongly with this. Before my son was born, I would placing headphones on mamas belly and reading to my boy. After he was born it was the only way to ease him to sleep and we did it every night until the divorce. It’s a special time I have with him I would never trade for anything. He’s now twenty nine and living his life, and an avid reader and writer. No matter how much we change as we grow, I’ll have all those times. Read to your children, for your benefit and much as theirs.

  28. Reading aloud is very much interesting.
