A picture is worth a thousand words.

A good friend sent me this photo
reading to her grandchild.
It is never too early to read aloud to a child.
A child is never too young to hear words while seeing pictures.
Pleasure and learning, all the senses on alert.

About Jennie
I have been teaching preschool for over thirty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I am highlighted in the the new edition of Jim Trelease's bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at both the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, and the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital.
Love this!
Thank you!
How adorable. It is never too early to read to a child. They associate reading with love and spending time with the adults in their life.
Hear, hear!!!
how wonderful and so true!
Yes! Thank you, Beth. π₯°
How wonderful π
π
The act of reading aloud Is an act of love. A child may not understand the words but they understand the sound of the voice. It’s one of comfort and of love.
Exactly!
This is wonderful! Yes, read, read, and read. π Lead by example. π
Well said, and thank you!
Definitely true, and proved by the look of concentration on the baby’s face. π
Best wishes, Pete.

I love the picture, Jennie and totally agree that it is never too early to read to your children.
They will be fascinated by the cadences and the pictures even as small.

Awww! I have a picture like that of me on my Grandma’s knee.
How wonderful!
First “Pat the Bunny,” then chewable books, then heavy cardboard ones, then “Hungry Caterpillar” and the kid is hooked for life!
You have that right!
Priceless.

You are so right, Jennie. Thanks for the marvelous photo too. Hugs on the wing!

A lovely picture, Jennie. I agree and I read to my boys when they were in utero.
I remember you did, Robbie. Bravo! It is so important.
I had to prepare them for what was to come [smile].

Yes, indeed!
Haha, adorable post. Also wholeheartedly agree, youβre never too young or too old to learn something
Exactly!
Aww-dorable! π
Thank you!
Lovely post. It so reminds me of my grandmother reading me bed time stories. What astonishes me is that I remember her tone, the stories to this day. And even how they made me feel
The power of reading aloud! It does so much.
beautiful kid, and seems attentive and interested right from the start.
Wow… Diamond π !!
π
And she learns she is loved.
Exactly!
I agree very strongly with this. Before my son was born, I would placing headphones on mamas belly and reading to my boy. After he was born it was the only way to ease him to sleep and we did it every night until the divorce. Itβs a special time I have with him I would never trade for anything. Heβs now twenty nine and living his life, and an avid reader and writer. No matter how much we change as we grow, Iβll have all those times. Read to your children, for your benefit and much as theirs.
Well said. Thank you for sharing your story. Reading aloud makes a great difference.
Reading aloud is very much interesting.
