Amanda in Holland: Missing in Action
by Darlene Foster
Just the book I’ve been wanting to read.
And, what a perfect day to curl up with a new book.
It’s snowing to beat the band outside.
I call that a win-win.
I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
Ah, a book by Darlene. Bad weather outside, time to read and enjoy. Sounds like the perfect combination, Jennie. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Yes, it does! Best to you, Pete.
I do hope you enjoy Amanda’s adventures in Holland and that the colourful tulips brighten the day. Happy reading. xo
I know I will, Darlene! I’ve been wanting this book for a while. At last!! And, thank you.
Oh, yes, it does look like a good book reading day! Enjoy your new book and stay warm! 😀
Thank you, Deborah!
You’re welcome! 😀
Perfect. A good book on a snowy day.
Exactly! Thanks, Anneli.
A new book is always exciting. What lurks beyond the first page is enticing…
Let us know how it reads for you. I’ve been thinking about getting a couple of Darlene’s books myself even if I have no one to read them too.
You don’t need anyone to read these books to. 🙂 I loved her book in Alberta, Canada. It’s cowboys and adventure. Holland is about visiting Anne Frank’s house and finding out about her uncle who never returned from the war- right up my alley with history. And their are the beautiful tulips.
What a perfect day, Jennie!
I think so, too. Thank you!
School canceled today?
Early dismissal and no school tomorrow. This one is a whopper storm.
I think you’re getting hit harder than we are. We’re forecasted for about a foot.
We got over a foot, with a few more inches today. It’s so pretty.
Oh wow, look at the snow, Jennie. Where do you live? What a winter wonderland. Enjoy reading Amanda in Holland.
I live in Massachusetts. We haven’t had much snow this winter, but this one will dump at least a foot. It really is a winter wonderland. Snowblowing tomorrow will not be fun! Thank you, Miriam.
Jennie, I have only seen a foot of snow a couple of times in the last 40 years. Are the schools closed?
We ended up getting 18”. It is beautiful, but snowblowing later today won’t be fun. Yes, schools are closed.
Hope you managed it and the kids were safe at home.
We did! Best to you, Miriam.
Gray to hear that, Jennie.
You’re welcome, Jennie!
I heard about the big storm back east. A good day to stay inside and enjoy a Darlene book.
I look forward to your review, Jennie.
Weather given by God, for not missing Amandas adventures. 😉 Today i have heard about the snow desaster in the Northeast of NY. Seems now i have better located you, Jennie! 🙂 Now reading aloud is a special pleasure. Michael
It was a whopper of a storm! We got at least 16” of snow here. Some places got 2 feet. Yes, reading aloud is a special pleasure. Thank you, Michael!
Happy reading, Jennie. Congrats to Darlene. Stay safe and warm. Hugs!
Thank you, Teagan! 🙂
This looks beautiful! 🙂
The Amanda books are terrific.
Thanks, Beth. What a fun surprise!
