Shining Stars

I looked at the stars tonight.

I thought about the children in my class.

I wasn’t sad, because children are shining stars.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

I like the analogy, Jennie. To carry it out a bit further, sometimes we don’t know when they will shine brightest. The lessons they learn today don’t always show themselves until years down the road.

The Norwegian author, Bjornstjerne Bjornson, wrote : “Do not complain beneath the stars about the lack of bright spots in your life.” If you have never had the opportunity to read any of his books, my favorite is the English translation of Mother’s Hands that was originally published in the early 1890’s. Children and stars are the bright spots we need now more than ever in our lives. For me, especially my Grandchild! Be safe and well! Thank-you!
