I have been plugging away at deleting photos from my media library, because I am close to using up my available space. I know, it’s only a photo, but as I scroll through the photos, every one has been a walk down memory lane. They have stories to tell. No wonder this is taking me forever. Every delete feels like I am giving away my first born child.
Here are a few photos at random that pulled at my heart today. No, these will not be deleted:
Children took it upon themselves to pull over all the chairs and read books. I was stunned, thrilled, humbled, and very proud.

No doubt you have these photos saved somewhere, so if they are deleted from the blog, at least you still have them to look at. I doubled my space allowance last year, by paying to upgrade to the WP ‘Personal Plan’. It wasn’t very expensive.

On my plan, I have 13 GB and I’ve used up 93%. Sigh! It may take me until the summer to plug along and delete, delete. They have suggested the business plan, but that is over $200. So, deleting it is!

Jennie I think many of us have been on a similar mission in the delete to create extra space.. As our blogs fill with our beautiful memories.. I can see why its so difficult.. Such lovely Happy Memories created here.. I am on 63% I now reduce the size of photos before uploading.. Which helps and you can alter and resize existing ones too..

It’s no wonder you had a hard time deleting anything. You need a big memory stick to put them all on. These are too precious to delete.
I know what you mean, Anneli. I really like them right where I can access them. My husband agrees with you, so we go back and forth on this. Once I get through the rest of the photos, I can decide on the memory stick. Many thanks!

you just need to upload all the photos onto the cloud or a server and /or burn them onto a disc. then you have them forever and space on your phone too. Photos aren’t just a way to hold time still, but a moment of love and life captured for all time

These are such great memories, Jennie. I wish WordPress would offer a less expensive option to simply increase the allowable storage. 13gb to unlimited is a big jump.

When I reblog someone’s post, all of their photos in that post go into my media library. I have to be better about deleting those right away. Also, videos take up a lot of space. Remember when I read aloud “The Poet’s Dog” over multiple blog posts? That was an enormous jump in storage. My last ‘gripe’ is that videos have no image in the media library. So, when I scroll through I have to click on each one to see what it is. The Happiness Engineers need to hire Apple guys to work on the ease of deleting and viewing photos.

I scale my photos down to 1,000 pixels on the long edge. I put my videos on YouTube and just link to them. I didn’t think about deleting the reblog pictures. You don’t need them, that’s a good idea.

Each picture has a story to tell, which often cannot be expressed in a sentence or two. I know some of these memories will be locked away in your heart even if the picture gets deleted. I’ve gone through similar experiences, and the trouble is we don’t remember them as well as we age. Bless you, Jennie, for making these memories for your students.
A picture is worth a thousand words, Pete. The treasures will never be deleted. And there’s nothing better than a photo to bring back memories. Ah, yes we do forget. Age does that. Thank goodness for the photos. And thank you for your kind words. 🙂

An exercise I started to do last year and then I upgraded although if I reach my limit or close this time I will not be upgrading further …I do compress all my images now though…Love all your images especially the pyjama one such joy on your faces and the last one..Have a good week, Jennie 🙂 xx

I have all my special photos on a thumb drive in a safe place and also on a photo viewer that moves through them one by one, and when I look up from my desk I see random images that make me smile. Lovely post Jennie… hugs♥

Omg Jennie, that would be like Sophie’s Choice. Just make sure you copy each one to a fold on your computer or the cloud. And remember if you delete images from your library, they are also gone from all your posts. Good luck! ❤
Yes, it really is like Sophie’s Choice. Very sad. I have deleted so many already, I fear looking back at those blog posts. Sigh! I didn’t realize they’d be gone from them. Videos take up so much storage, too. When I read aloud The Poets’s Dog over so many posts, that was a huge chunk of storage. But, I’m working through it, and I’m delighted to see those photos again. Be still, my heart. I wish I had photos as you have from the classes I have worked in as a paraeducator, an aide and a teacher. How wonderful would that be to have all those beautiful memories. Unfortunately Substitutes cannot do that, so I will have to count on my memories, and even as names and words seem to fly from my head, the images never do.
Substitute teachers could not take pictures? That’s too bad. It’s so much easier nowadays with a phone. I have hard copy photos of ‘moments’ early on, but not as good as those over the past 5 years. Thanks, Anne!
I managed a few regardless, but there were a lot of things I did for my children that most would not do and that the school frowned on, like bringing food for the teens who were coming to school hungry. It helped their grades and overall classroom morale so much. Everyone was at last able to study and help each other and morale went up 100%. Those who could put a dollar or so in the jar and those who could not were not shamed in any way. To me, it was something the school should have been tending to, but they did not want to admit that there were poor children, some of whose parents had become homeless due to being laid off, etc. We were not allowed to have cell phones due to some subs abusing the priviledge. But when I did get photos, the teacher gave me the ok because I made some quilts too for my classes. I did everything I could for my children. Thank you too for your acknowledgement and joy. It has been so inspiring.
Bravo to you, Anne! You managed far more than a few (understatement). You did the right thing, regardless. And you know those children were and are much better off, thanks to you. That is a great legacy. You should feel proud. I certainly am. 🙂
