Gloria went trick or-treating on Halloween night as a cow. Imagine that! She was accompanied by Asha, who dressed up as Elsa, and by Asha’s big brother who dressed up as Harry Potter.
Gloria’s journal entry reads:
“Asha had so much fun going trick-or-treating with Aaryan and Gloria. All the kids got lots of candy. Gloria decided to dress as a cow this year because she really loves milk. Asha went as Elsa because she loves Frozen. Aaryan really enjoyed having Gloria around, he would tuck her in every night. Asha would make sure to greet Gloria warmly every morning. We can’t wait until Gloria sleeps over again.”
Back at school today, the children decided Gloria was tired from her Halloween weekend and trick-or-treating. They put her to bed for a nap.

I had a very floppy and bendy teddy bear (all in a velour outfit) that was easy to use like a puppet. Probably the size of Gloria – he was the Boo Bear. He talked to the kids and got hugs and kisses from them and blew kisses to them. He led the singing of the songs for learning the sounds of the letters, and reminded me when it was time to turn the page. We had so much fun, he even had to be on the class photo. Very much like Gloria, so I can relate to how important a role these “characters” can play.
Clearly, Boo Bear was an absolute gem and a true member of the classroom, like Gloria. I can tell. These characters can work wonders and relate to children in ways that teachers cannot. The gift they give is precious and timeless. Thank you, Anneli. Do you still have Boo Bear?

Very sweet! I wonder how the givers of candy responded to Gloria and her costume.
This year I was told people responded well. In years past, especially when Gloria’s costume didn’t cover as much, people asked about ‘the witch’. Interestingly, when parents reported that, they were frustrated and tried to explain Gloria to those who asked. Isn’t that wonderful?!
