The cows were the first to holler,
“Autumn is here! Autumn is here!
Put on your bright colors!”
The leaves heard the call.
They shook off their green
and dressed in red.
At first it was hard.
But they got the hang of it.
Then they burst into glory.
Next came the orange and the yellow.
The sunflowers gave a big smile.
The last butterfly appeared.
As the autumn colors emerged and exploded,
the sky answered
with a show of approval.

I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

It was accelerated by the heatwaves I think, but we don’t ever get the lovely red leaves you have there, at least not in the area where I live.

My husband and I were driving through Montpelier yesterday when I saw a painted cow painted like an actual cow. It was at the front of a state agriculture building, so it must have needed gravitas.

Beautiful images, Jennie. Our colours are still just peeping, but I’m okay with that for another week or so. I’m still getting in the pool, but the cover goes on in a week.
I’m jealous that you’re still getting into the pool. We closed the pool two weeks ago so there wouldn’t be leaves on the bottom of the pool.
I have a solar blanket that I put on as soon as I get out. It helps keep it warm, and it helps keep the leaves out.
