Blood Red Sun

I can’t recall when I’ve seen the sun so red.
It was beautiful.
Late afternoon today
the sky was milky with far-away forest fires.
No blue skies, no clouds.
The blood red sun was the only beacon.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

  1. Wow what a shot. Thanks for sharing, Jennie.

  2. And then there’s the Blue Moon. Interesting Universe we live in.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the sun red like that. We’re getting the forest fire smoke, too.

We get that occasionally, but it’s always associated with heavy smoke.

  5. It is pretty. All the smoke and ash make the moon red. It scatters the light waves and the reflected light makes the Moon look red. It happened here as well when we were getting a lot of smoke from several California fires a few years ago.

Isn’t it something how something so devastating can cause something beautiful at the same time?

The moon gets red, too? I’ll have to look tonight as we still have the smoke from the wildfires. You are so right about beauty from devastation!

The moon is gorgeous. Sad about the fires though. xo

Unfortunately that usually means smog or smoke in the atmosphere, but it is spectacular!

Perhaps we’ll have one headed our way, Jennie. Sounds like there is smoke in our future here. A really unique shot.

Nice photo, Jennie. Smokey here in western NY starting today. I can’t imagine the air quality in closer proximity to the fires. Stay cool and wear a mask if your out longer than normal.
