Red is my favorite color.
Can you tell?
Last month I was green.
Next month I’ll be brown.
But now I’m red, and I’m in my glory.
The sun and the wind like to play with me.
Children want to be with me.
I’m the one. The One.
It feels good.
I watch children.
They watch me.
I love them.
They love me.
I love being red,
because the more I give
my red shines like a beacon.

About Jennie
I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
LOVE this!
Thank you, Annette!
Beautiful! Central Park is just beginning to change color and I cannot wait to document it!
Thanks, John. Like you, I cannot get enough of the fall colors. I look forward to your photos!
That’s beautiful, Jennie! Such a lively and pretty scene. Autumn’s beauty isn’t going to waste in that playground.
You are so right, Dan! Many thanks.
Lovely
Thank you, Don.
What beautiful music (the laughter) to go with the red.
I didn’t realize there would be children’s voices as I video’d the tree. Of course! Thank you, Jacqui.
happy happy red, I hear and see the joy!
Thank you, Beth!
What a gorgeous poem.
Thank you, Esther. I’m not a poet, but this came to me after watching the tree.
It felt so natural.
😍
Dear Jennie
Great picture 👍
This is a kind of red I like for a sweater, for example. But there are many reds I don’t like. I wouldn’t like to wear a sweater in Ferrari Red, and red walls in rooms I don’t like either. In our garden, I like the red poppies. Anyway, many, many years I did a book and film about the colour red and was amazed by how many reds there are.
Here are some ideas about red
Thanks and happy weekend

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
‘My Name is Red’ is the title of a novel by Orhan Pamuk, I really like.
Red is a color that triggers emotions, like the excitement of a Ferrari. Like you, I wouldn’t want to wear that sweater, but looking at red leaves on maple trees or red Cana flowers is a joy. Thank you for the link, I enjoyed it. And, I did not know there is a book with the same title. Cool! I will check it out.
Such a beautiful autumnal tree, and you celebrated it in words and video perfectly!
Best wishes, Pete.
It is so beautiful! Thank you, Pete. I’m glad you liked my poem.
Red is the best!! The trees here don’t change colour. I miss that.
Yes, red is the best. I bet you miss that. In Canada, what colors did trees display in the fall? Out west here, it is mostly yellow (Aspen), and little red. Our daughter is in Oregon and she really misses the red maple trees.
There weren’t many trees on the prairies in Alberta and the ones we had turned mostly yellow in the fall. In the city there were some red as folks planted maple trees and a few others that turned orange/red. In Vancouver I had a Japanese maple that turned a gorgeous red.
Yellow seems to be the prominent color out west. I can understand why folks planted maple trees. Yes, Japanese maples are gorgeous!
Lovely poem, Jennie. I would love to see red trees. Ours stay green mostly
😊
Thank you, John. I bet you’d love these trees. Do you have any color change at all?
Just a very little. The Bradford pears get a little color. The oaks usually have a yellow phase unless it’s been dry.
Some color is a good thing!
Yes, that is true. We have green, brown, and yellow
🙂
Love how the sun peeked through the leafs as you panned Jennie!
Thank you, Wayne. That was my favorite part!
It’s a gorgeous tree. I love those reds too.
Thank you, Deborah. I feel the same way!
🥰
Perfect!
😍
Beautiful tree and poem, Jennie. I love the changing colours and the kids having fun in the background.
Thank you, Carla! I feel the same way. 😍
Thank you for such a nourishing video and ode to the color red poem. And the music of children…I love Fall. 🙂
I’m all smiles here, Laura. I’m so glad this nourished your soul, as it did mine. I love fall!
A perfect pairing of images and poem!
Thank you, Liz!
You’re welcome, Jennie!
I love our climate here, Jennie, but we sure don’t get the glorious colors of the Northeast.
We are lucky!
A lovely poem.
Thank you.
Beautiful light and color, and charming words to go with them.
Thank you, Karma.
Fantastic and what wonderful colours, loved your poem Jennie 🙏
Thank you, Kamal. I’m so glad!
You are always welcome dear Jennie ❤️
Thank you, Kamal!
oh the joys of simple nature!
Yes, indeed! Thank you, Mireya.
Loved this. Fall is my favorite time of year.
Mine, too. I’m glad you loved this, Marlene.
Always welcome
😍
I love red too! Gorgeous tree, looks very similar to my view outside here in Canada. 🥰
I’m so glad! Red maples are are in your neck of the Canadian woods, but out west is mostly yellow, right? I’m rooting for the Blue Jays in the World Series!
Thanks Jennie. I’m not sure about out west because I live in Toronto, Ontario where the colors are spectacular. 🥰
Yes, they are! I’ve read that out west there isn’t the glorious red we both have. I’m nail biting that the Blue Jays will win the World Series.
So true Jennie. And yay, thanks for the good wishes on our Blue Jays this Halloween! Spooky! 😊💜
I’ll be thinking of you as I watch the game tomorrow night!
Very big night! Thanks Jennie xx
