‘Thank You’
are the all-important words
in life.
They’re especially important
on Veterans Day.
Major General Z
now retired
visited my classroom.
We wanted to thank him.
Children were in awe.
As soon as The General talked with children
it was bees to honey,
answering questions,
showing them his pins and ribbons,
parachute and helicopter.
He was in the Army 82nd Airborne Division
and so much more.
Children shook his hand
to say ‘thank you’.
This child speaks Russian
and so does The General.
They had a lively conversation.
We sang “God Bless America ”
Actually, we belted it out.
The YouTube above is almost as good as the children.
Children love this song.
They know it’s important.
It feels good.
We learned to stand proud and tall,
and put our hand on our heart.
Children wanted The General
to salute the American flag.
That was a jaw-dropping moment.
We presented
The General
with the best book, ever
The Star-Spangled Banner.
A final thank you
to The General
and his lovely wife- a dear friend.
Thank a veteran.
Freedom is not free.
Never forget. πΊπΈ

What a lovely visit from the general and his wife, and perfect for the little ones to be able to get close and ask questions. Just delightful, Jennie.
Best wishes, Pete.
It was, Pete. Thank you!
How splendid!!
Thank you, Geoff!
Thank you Veterans … and thank you Jennie for teaching this to children.
It’s so important. My pleasure, Frank.
What a wonderful thing to do. The children will never forget it.
Thank you, Darlene. πΊπΈ
That’s a wonderful experience for the children (and for you), Jennie.
Yes, indeed, Thank you, Dan.
What a great goose pimple inducing experience! I had the goose pimples here reading about it!
That’s so nice, Deborah! Thank you.
What a wonderful thing for the children! The General must be a kind and generous man.
He really is, Liz. He was wonderful with the children, and they loved him.
I could see that from the photos!

Thank you, Willow! π₯°
A pleasure ππ
How wonderful, Jenny, and the soldier singing from Afghanistan–it gave me chills.
Me too, Jacqui! When our son was a Plebe, he did the ‘bathrobe bet’ with The General for the Army/Navy game. So now he has an Army bathrobe. I’ll never forget the day he went to The General’s house to pick it up (he was so nervous), and The General pulled out his West Point Bugle Notes from when he was a Plebe, which is almost identical to the Naval Academy’s Reef Points. Am I bringing back memories for you? He took so much time with our son- such a nice guy. No wonder the children loved his visit.
So glad to see the emphasis on veterans and service in your classroom, Jennie. Children of any age should be in awe of those who serve, and especially those who serve our great country. Thanks to your husband for his service, as well.
Thank you, Steve. I feel the same way, and I’ll always bring veterans into my class to help children understand and appreciate their service. I’ll pass your thanks along to Hubby!
An amazing post, Jennie. The kids must have been so impressed. So kind of the General to do this for them.
They were very impressed! As soon as he squatted down to talk with them, the magic began. Thank you, John.
I can imagine.
Yes! π
Awesome Jennie, it is so important our children never forget the sacrifices that were given for freedoms… What a day for them to remember..
Sending love… β€
Amen! Thank you, Sue. Big hugs and love to you! π

As a veteran, of the 82nd, I salute the general for taking the time with the children, and I thank you Jennie for arranging the visit.
From one 82nd veteran to another, my heart couldn’t be more proud! I was honored to have The General visit the children. Thank you, Don. πΊπΈ
The children are our future.
Yes, they are. I have a big job to do.
Hi Jennie, thank you for another wonderful post!
You are welcome, Charles. Never forget! πΊπΈ
One of the things you’re so good about is to help your students understand the importance of our Veterans. My favorite part was reading about the General and the child having a conversation in Russian.
That was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. I love when those moments ‘just happen’. Thanks so much, Pete. I will always bring veterans and patriotism into the classroom.
A wonderful Veteranβs Day celebration, Jennie π
Thank you, Robbie. π₯°
