It really felt like a perfect symbol for children’s growth. My book is about a dog and his girl, the old steam train, the engineer and his red bandana, and a birthday party. It has adventure, fear, friendship…all the important elements. Fingers crossed, as the editing was grueling (I picked the toughest editor on purpose.) I was shocked when she called my query ‘phenomenal’. So now I submit in September, as August is ‘dead month’ for agents. Thank you so much for your comments and good wishes, my friend.

Thank you, John. Yes, nailing the query letter is huge. My editor is so hard, which is a good thing. You don’t want to know how many edits and revisions in the book. When she read the query letter she said it was phenomenal, which was a a shock. So now submissions can begin in earnest.
