Gloria and the Leprechaun

Gloria, what are you doing?  Are you okay?

I’m fine.  Lucky came by last night.

Lucky?

Yes, Lucky the Leprechaun.

I see.  Gloria, do you know how hard the Aqua Roomers
worked on making that trap?

It took them three days.

And Gloria, the leprechaun trap worked!

Then, you let Lucky go.

Really?

I know…. just look at how much fun he had.
Well, how much fun we had.
We had a blast!

Whee!

Oh, Lucky is sorry he forgot to flush the toilet.

Gloria, I’m glad you and Lucky the Leprechaun
had so much fun.  What a party!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

What a fun St. Patrick’s Day party they had. Good for Gloria for letting Lucky go free. The Aqua Roomers will have to try again next year. ☘️☘️

I would say this was a great success all around, here’s to the leprechauns and gloria and the innovative children!

  7. LOL!! It looks like they had a blast. 💚🍀

Great traps and what a story!

  9. I can’t even imagine how much work, time, and love you put into your classes. Bravo!

  10. Leprechaun traps! And evidence of leprechauns in the bathroom! Crazy fun!

  11. I’m still laughing at the toilet! Way to go, Jennie. You’ve made St. Patrick’s Day unforgettable for these kids.

  12. It looks like the children had a great time. You are a miracle worker.

  13. Ha! Gennie, you’ve outdone yourself. This is all so wonderful. I can just imagine the children’s enthusiasm in making the trap — and their awe when they came into the room. The photos are a delight. You crowned it all with the green leprechaun pee in the toilet! That slayed me! Big hugs.

Thanks so much, Teagan. It was a big effort, and my co-teacher really takes the credit. You should have seen me as I opened the door to the room and immediately closed it – going into a frenzy where I couldn’t even speak because of what I had seen. All of that preempted the children seeing what happened. Yes, the green pee! 😂

Oh! That Gloria looks like my kind of girl! I’d of let Lucky free too. Did you know Jennie if you keep a Leprechaun captive they are more trouble than they are worth , plus they won’t give you any good luck or treasure!

It looks like they had great fun together. Naughty Lucky not flushing the toilet… What did the children make of that? … Happy St.Patrick’s Day to you and your family and of course Gloria and all the Aqua Roomers.💜💜💜💜

So much fun. I remember when my daughter was in pre-K the assistant left rabbit footprints going out the window at Easter. The kids loved it as I am sure yours did trying to catch the imp.

  17. What a hoot! When Gloria cuts loose, she cuts loose!! I love the idea of spending three days building a leprechaun. I’ll bet the children had a specific reason behind each of its components.

I’m sure we’ve talked about this before, but I also had visits from Lucky the Leprechaun in my classroom. One year he sent them on a scavenger hunt throughout the classroom. I’ve head kids (now adults) still tell me they remember that day. Traps galore, yet Lucky evaded them all and even gave the kids a little trash talk in the process.

    • Jennie's avatar Jennie says:

Yes! These are the events kids remember, not how they learned to add numbers, right? Lucky is always a favorite, so much fun. The green pee and Gloria swinging from the ceiling were the big hits. Lucky really gets around. 😀

Lucky made a mess! But Gloria showed her kindness by letting him go free.
