Reading Again – At Last!

He has been unable to read for two years.
The words and pages ‘move’ with his eye problems.
As a result, he stopped reading books.
He gave it another try.

Seeing him reading again is a joy.
I think he picked a winner – Knuckleheads
by Dan Antion.

P.S.  I have been told to order the next two books in the series.  That’s music to my ears.  Oh, in the meantime he needs another book to read.  I have the perfect book:

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

Great news about the reading. And choosing the books of fellow bloggers keeps it in the community too.
    Best wishes, Pete.

All great choices. I loved Knuckleheads! So pleased he is able to read again. It was hard on my dad when he couldn’t read. I bought him some audiobooks to get him through.

Oh for the simple JOY of reading!! I am so happy for your Dad, Jennie! xo

    • Jennie's avatar Jennie says:

Thank you, Amy. Actually, this is my husband. He’s 75 and I’m 73. His eye issues are macular degeneration, which are under control. Now, it is better than ever, and who knows why. I have to believe there are higher forces at work. God is on his side.

      • AmyRose🌹's avatar AmyRose🌹 says:

Oh my goodness I do apologize, Jennie. I “thought” you wrote “Dad”. After all I’m still human which is a good thing. (smile) And YES there are always higher forces at work …. that I know yet it is usually with hindsight.

      • Jennie's avatar Jennie says:

No apologies necessary, Amy. My goodness, I have done that a hundred times. 😍 I’m glad you understand about the higher forces at work. We only see or understand after the fact.

I am so happy to know this, Jennie! I hope he enjoys them all, but I mainly hapy he is doing something he loves.

    • Jennie's avatar Jennie says:

Thank you, Dan. This is really a big deal, and your book did it. He has been a voracious reader all of his life, so that puts it in perspective. I need to order the next books in your series, pronto! 🙂

How great! I’m happy for Steve because reading is the one thing we should be able to enjoy at any point in our adult lives. I imagine it’s like anything that we often take for granted. Once we get a second chance, we tend to appreciate it more.

    • Jennie's avatar Jennie says:

You hit the nail on the head. Steve has always been a voracious reader, typically a book a week. Stopping reading was taking away what he loved. Now he has a real gift.

  14. That’s wonderful, Jennie. I can’t imagine what I’d do if I couldn’t see well enough to read.
