I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
My dad and my children’s day served and the military has a big part of my heart. They were family. How can anyone forget? Willowdot sure added a fun bit of entertainment here. Today was my dad’s birthday. Always a few tears. The young man with you??
Hi Marlene. Good to know your family served. Nice that your dad’s birthday was on Memorial Day. Tears are a good thing.
Willow’s video was hilarious! The young man is a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. He spoke to the children at our school’s Memorial Day Remembrance. It was wonderful!
I know you never forget. Your blog often puts into perspective WWII, and earlier wars. No child our age in America grew up playing in war rubble. You did, and you remember.
We haven’t had a war on our soil since our own Civil War. Yes, WWII is our Greatest Generation, yet I think as they die, our remembrance fades. That is so sad. Fortunately, Memorial Day keeps the remembrance going. I wish we called Memorial Day Remembrance Day, like you. Best to you, Pete.
Lest we forget ππΌ

A lovely post, Jennie. I’m glad your kids are learning about patriotism, gratefulness, and empathy. They go hand in hand on Memorial Day.
They definitely go hand in hand with Memorial Day. Many thanks, Diana.
