Here are outstanding quotations on education from Charles French. Even the earliest scholars understood children and how they learn best. Curiosity is the spark that ignites education.
charles french words reading and writing
“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”
Margaret Mead
“The mind once enlightened cannot again become dark.”
Thomas Paine
“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”
Plato
“Education is essential for the improvement of humanity, and it must continue throughout a person’s life. We are never too young nor too old to learn. We must embrace curiosity about the world around us, and we should learn every day of our lives.”

Excellent… How to think not what to think… So many children today are not being given opportunities to Question… Even back in my day at school I was always questioning teachers and always being put in my place… If I asked WHY?….. You soon began not to question. and that is what is happening today.. People are fearful to question and seek Answers.. And I agree we are Never Ever too old to learn… Many thanks for sharing. ❤
Well said! You certainly hit the nail on the head, and you were part of ‘how not to be inspired to learn’. Best to you, Sue.
Exactly which is why I so, so, love your methods of teaching Jennie, as I have said to you so many times… I so wish you had been my teacher back then… 🙂 For you inspire your students to question and explore.. Which is what learning is all about ❤

This is the best, “Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” So true.
Best wishes.
Isn’t that the best! Thank you, Chaya

This is exactly right. So many parents brainwash their children with their own views and opinions. A child has his/her own mind and must be able to think for themselves and make their own choices in life.
Hear, hear!
Good guidance for parents and children 🙏
