Fall in New England is beautiful. Spectacular might be a better word. Every year is a marvel for children on the playground at school. We have maple trees. They turn bright red and orange. This year was different. The bright colors clustered in groups.
Here is the most interesting thing- the tips of every maple leaf have turned red, as if they have painted nails. I have never seen such distinct red color at the tips of the leaf.
Today we finished reading Charlotte’s Web, our first chapter reading book of the year. Yes, I had a lump in my throat. I often think about the author, E.B. White. He noticed everything. I wonder if he saw maple leaves with painted fingers. I wonder if he saw clusters of bright colors in maple trees. His words ring true:
“Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.”
Jennie
wow, how incredibly beautiful and interesting what the color is doing!
It really is, Beth. I’ve never seen anything quite like this.
That is lovely. Enjoy the fall/autumn colours. I have heard they’re the best in New England. I love autumn here but one day I should travel to see all the splendor of a New England fall
Thank you, Brenda. It is beautiful. I hope you visit New England.
Love this, Jennie 💛
Thanks, Ritu. 🥰
Fabulous images Jennie, And you painted your own beautiful images with your words here Jennie..
You see the Wonder in so many things… ❤ ❤ ❤
Thank you, Sue! 🥰
Autumn: an opened box of jewels…Beautiful, thank you. Will always remember the Fall of 1957 as we were living in Toronto, Canada then.
Autumn
Jewelled leaves;
dampened eaves,
misty morns
and hazy suns.
‘Glistening’ cars
and sudden puddles;
a need for sleeves
and morning snuggles…
Crisp, sharpened walks;
nostalgic talks,
steaming soups and warm citrus fruits.
So many reasons to
fall in love with the Autumn season.
Love
Joy xx
My goodness, this is beautiful! Thank you, Joy. You really captured fall. This poem is the same today in New England as it was in 1957 in Toronto. I’m glad you had that wonderful experience.
The trees are gorgeous. I noticed intense colours when in Canada recently. Just love it when nature provides visual entertainment! I also love the EB White quote. Wonder is everywhere!
Those intense colors are a treat to see. I’m glad you saw Canada’s! I feel the same way you do, Darlene. It is a vision! E.B. White’s quote is the best, wonder is everywhere!
I am going to take those words with me today as I am birding.
Those red tips and clusters are beautiful!
I’m so glad you’re taking those words with you. They are always ‘there’ when I see something remarkable or that catches my eye in nature. I’ve never seen those red tips before, so that was a big wow!

Please enjoy this wonderful post from Jennie, the extraordinary teacher!
Thank you, Charles!
You are lucky to have such wonderful colours, Jennie. Everything here in Beetley is still a dull green.
Best wishes, Pete.
I am lucky. Does Beetley ever get fall colors in their trees? Best to you, Pete.
Most of the trees around here are Oaks, so we don’t get the same variety of colours.
Ah! Our oaks always have a rusty color.
Beautiful colors all around this time of year, and that quotation from White couldn’t be more relevant right now. There are wonderous images all around us, and we should slow down a bit and take the time to enjoy them all.
Exactly!
Magnetic and beautiful autumn colours. Too good 👍🏼👍🏼
I have also noted that odd phenomenon of clusters of leaves and tips of leaves. In general the colors are more muted, more russet than bright red. Here the oranges have been brilliant–though in patches.
I’m glad to know you’ve noticed the same. Quite odd. I was not expecting brilliant colors this year due to the lack of rain.
Oh, the wonder of it all! 🍂
Yes, indeed!
Lovely view of the trees. Thanks, Jennie.
Glad you liked the view!
😊
I love to witness the changing of the seasons. Each one has its own special beauty. Just like Charlotte.
Well said, and I feel the same way!
Lovely fall colours!
😀
Our maples are doing the same thing. Unusual . . .
Amazing photos! Loving the colors this year….very vibrant. Never seen red on tips before, but I am going to look while I walk this week
Thank you. I wonder if you will see the same thing.
I love finding a tree that is in the middle of transitioning with multiple colors simultaneously. I think that adds to their beuaty.
I think so, too! Every year the anticipation of what the colors will be is exciting.
Love it!
Thank you.
Always have our eyes open to wonder! Those red tipped green leaves so interesting.
Yes indeed!
Forwarding your final quote to my readers with thanks to you 🙏
Thank you!
😊
Beautiful, Jenni. A wonderful observation and reflection on a great author.
Thank you, Norah.
Beautiful autumn photos, Jennie. We have color here in Oregon, but not quite the same as New England maples. Ah, Charlotte’s Web and EB White. What a wonderful way to start the school year. Hugs.
Thank you, Diana. Do you have more yellows? I must say I love the maple trees. And yes, Charlotte’s Web and E.B. White…the best! Hugs to you.
Mostly yellow, though we have lots of ornamental trees out here because of the mild temps. The variety of Japanese maples is huge and most of them turn red. 🙂
I love Japanese maples. Their leaves are dark red and quite beautiful. The yellows are gorgeous, and we have many of them here as well.
Beautiful pics! Nature’s crayons!
Exactly!
Gorgeous fall colors, looks the same in my neck of the woods. 🙂 xx
I’m glad you have the same beauty. Aren’t we the lucky ones!
We certainly are ❤
😀
Fantastic
Thank you.
Those trees are beautiful!!!
Yes! Thank you.
Hi Jennie, how interesting that the leaves are red in clusters and at their tips. I haven’t noticed that with our trees. They go completely multicoloured uniformly.
Usually ours go uniformly, too. This was quite different, and lovely.
🍁🍂
The pictures makes it stunning.
Thank you.

The colors of fall are so wonderful, and if like here the temperatures currently around 15 degrees (C) i love this period of time much more. 🙂 xx Michael
Yes, they are! What colors do you have? Are they vibrant? I love this time of the year, too!
Beautiful colours 🍁
Thank you.
You’re welcome
So effervescently graciously beautiful, indeed. Heartiest thanks for your valuable sharing.
