Moments #3

Moments #2 were sunsets, grandchildren, and what happens in my classroom.  My final ‘moments’ post, Moments #3, is looking up, looking down, and looking out.

Rainbow around the sun yesterday at noon

Rainbows under water in my pool

Thank you E.B. White for these words of wisdom.

I was on my porch and couldn’t help but notice that, well…
the world seemed incredibly beautiful.
It filled me with sunshine.  I’m so glad I paid attention and looked.

Looking inside was followed by looking outside.

In the words of Steve the Crossing Guard, spoken at his Curbside Classroom:
“Wherever you are, look up, down and around your own environment. Then, share your discoveries with others and get them excited, too.”

Thank you, Steve.  I take that to heart.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over thirty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I am highlighted in the the new edition of Jim Trelease's bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at both the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, and the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital.

Your welcome, Jennie. Last week, while camping, I noticed a what I believe to be a cicada walking by our camp sight. It was still developing and was beautiful with a tinge of bluish green wings. For a moment, I was part of its world. That moment was followed by a ‘listening’ pleasure. A precocious 4 year old in the next trailer was overheard telling his grandmother, “I’m a happy kid”. Two wonderful moments because I was ‘looking down’ and ‘listening’ to the space around me. Thanks for sharing your discoveries and sharing them.

  6. I know just what you mean. There are times I will enter a room in my house and be overcome with joy at the way the sun is shining through the window.

    All so, so gorgeous 😍

I have never seen a rainbow around the sun like that. And I love your porch, Jennie. It feels like a visual definition of the word ‘Home’. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

This was a first for me, Pete. I Googled it, and it’s called a sun halo. Apparently there are ice particles in the thin, wispy high altitude clouds. When light passes through the ice crystals it creates a circular halo around the sun. I love your description of my porch. Yes, home. Thank you!

  9. So wonderful view 🌷🙏♥️🌹

Steve is so wise. And so are you!!

  11. I love the sun rainbow, and the pool abstracts and rainbows. Great moments and quotes, Jennie!

  12. It’s the little things that make us happy. Your pool must be surrounded by a chainlink fence, right? The reflections look like squares of fencing. Pretty designs.

  13. quiall says:

There is such incredible beauty all around us, all we have to do is look…

  14. It’s all those little moments through life that make it one of abundant joy. Love the rainbows in the pool. You have quite the collection of fish there. 😉 I need to get back over and see Steve. It’s been an overwhelming summer and I’m way behind. He does what you do at the other end. You inspire the youngest, he does it for those that are almost out of school. Both of you absolutely wonderful at what you do and desperately needed. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place with us.

    • Jennie says:

Yes, it’s all those little moments. I couldn’t believe the rainbows in the pool. See, I hadn’t paid attention before. Shame I’m me, because I missed out. I’m glad you noticed the collection of fish! Inside the pool is even more. 🙂 Steve has more words of wisdom and common sense (and humor) than the rest of us do. I am thrilled if I can fill his shoes. I will keep inspiring the young ones, as they always need to be inspired. Thank you so much, Marlene. Your words are golden.
