I have been teaching preschool for over thirty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I am highlighted in the the new edition of Jim Trelease's bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at both the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, and the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital.
My favorite, and often repeated, quotation on stories from a very wise lady : “Stories are the keepers of words and memories.” – Jennie Fitzkee. Thank-YOU!
I think we are basically story tellers. All of our earlier lives make great stories, especially the ones my grandchildren call “sordid.” Not to worry! They just think any family drama is sordid.
You are absolutely right! Grandchildren are the best for putting things into perspective. I just love that. I tell my childhood stories to my preschoolers, Jennie Stories. If I didn’t tell one at lunchtime, there would be mutiny. 🙂
Terrific, Jennie.
Thank you, John.
You are welcome, Jennie. 😊

Yes, I said that. 😊 Thank you, Ellen!
That is so very true!
Yup!

And for them they were a “very long time ago.”
Yes! 😀
Stories can often share history and the times people lived in ways a pure history books might not.
Yes, very much so. The oral stories were the foundation for written stories. In many ways, they are far better.
So very true!
🙂
Isn’t that lovely?! Thanks for sharing, Jennie.
Yes, it is. Charles has outstanding quotations.
Absolutely!
