I will never forget, but will my students never forget? Have my teachings of Memorial Day through songs, books, and the American flag been remembered? Have they passed down a sense of patriotism? Roshan remembers. He told me so. “I remember learning about the American flag and singing patriotic songs in the Aqua Room and the activities on patriotic holidays.” His Eagle Scout project is interviewing veterans for the Library of Congress archives. Thank you Theresa for this post.

Yes. I have been listening to radio programs and watching TV shows which underscore how freedom is NOT free. So many people have lost their lives, so many ecosystems have been damaged in order for less autocratic forms of government to continue to exist. How encouraging to know that lessons learned in the Aqua Room are continuing to ripple in Roshan’s life!
A rousing hear, hear, Will. And a big thank you. Yes, it’s good to know that the ripple effect is working. I’m so proud of Roshan. He’s headed to Yale in the fall. He’s as kind as he is smart.
🥰
This is marvelous, Jennie. I’m happy you shared with us. Hugs on the wing!
Thanks, Teagan. Hugs to you!
A powerful quote, so appropriate for your remembrance today.
Best wishes, Pete.
I felt the same way, Pete. Thank you. Best to you.

Thank you, GP. Our son is somewhere in the Persian Gulf right now. I wonder what his ship does on Memorial day.
From the Navy:
On Memorial Day, each saluting ship and each naval station having a saluting battery fires a salute of 21 minute-guns at noon. All ships and naval stations display the national ensign at half-mast from 0800 until the completion of the salute or until 1220 if no salute is fired or to be fired.
Thank you so much, GP!
Any time!
🙂
How exciting that Roshan is a part of the Library of Congress veterans’ oral history project!
I am beside myself with excitement for him and his project!
The experience of a lifetime, for sure!
Yes!
Great quote, Jennie. Freedom comes at too high a price for many.
Yes, it does.
💖
Jennie, thank you so much!
You are welcome!
I also love the powerful quote, and hope you all had a wonderful remembrance day. Its so important, just in a time of so many deniers. xx Michael
Well said, Michael.
