This could be me…

My wonderful students said ‘thank you’
for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Coffee, cookies, flowers,
and a card that made me cry.
I am touched, and so very lucky.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

    you often hear that teaching is a thankless job. a career that makes big changes in the lives of the smallest members of society. a career that is doing what people expect us to do, and don’t think about all that you give each day. But, there are so many times when the thanks come in ways other than words. The thanks come in the ahh-haa moments, the quick smile and the knowledge that you made a difference. Enjoy teacher appreciation week… even if teachers know that the students in their lives thank and appreciate them everyday

      Thank you so much, Will! On a side note, I was thinking of you today. Our school children are writing wishes, as we’re making one of the trees on the playground into a Wish Tree. If you haven’t heard of Wish Trees, they’ve been around for hundreds of years. Anyway, you know how much I love music, and how important it is to children. All I could think of was singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” as we hang our wishes tomorrow. Then, I changed the words: “When you wish upon a tree, makes no difference who’ll you be”. This is so you, and so me. As I struggled with figuring out how to play this on the autoharp, I said, “I wish Will were here. He would love this.” ❤️

    These special times happen quite often over the course of a normal school year. The number one predictor of a child’s success is his/her relationship with the teacher.

        I believe it, too. The one fact I know is reading aloud is the single most contributor to academic success. Your fact relates to lifetime success, which is different, and includes the emotional and social piece. We both know that is #1.

      I didn’t sing, but Gloria was beside herself. Her mask couldn’t hide her smile. 😀 I think your Dad was spot on. Speaking of splendid moments and singing… I was on a six foot ladder with children today, singing “When You Wish Upon a Star”, hanging wishes onto trees. Best day. My Wish Tree post is soon, with my singing video. As they say, ‘don’t quit your day job’. Thank you, Geoff.
