Winter Wonderland

Over a foot of snow fell yesterday.
It was a winter wonderland.
Since we are alone for Christmas,
it will be a treat to have a white one.

Light and fluffy.
Windy and cold.
It found it’s way into everywhere.

The clean-up began.

I think our snowman likes being in the snow, too.

May your days be merry and bright,
and may all your Christmases be white.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over thirty-five years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

It really was pretty snow. Your snowman does look happy. Have a great weekend, Jennie.

  2. beetleypete says:

If it makes you happy to have snow, then that makes me happy for you, Jennie.
I don’t want any in Beetley though! šŸ™‚
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Darlene says:

The snow is pretty but I will be happy with my sunny Spain Christmas. Enjoy the season, Jennie!

  4. Ritu says:

    I’m so jealous!!!

  5. Very pretty Jenny and your snowman indeed looks quite pleased. I confess though, watching the news coverage of the norā€™easter from down here in AL made reaffirmed my not missing New England winters.

  7. It looks pretty. I hope you’re feeding the birds.

  8. How beautiful it looks! Your snowman reminded me of Gloria…similar noses? Not sure, but I thought of her.

Stay warm, merry, and bright! šŸ„°ā„ā˜ƒ

    • Jennie says:

Awww… Iā€™m so glad the snowman reminded you of Gloria. She will be thrilled to know.

On a Gloria side note…weā€™re not allowed to have anything stuffed or with fabric in the classroom this year. Thank you, COVID. We have to be careful with Gloria, so the spontaneous love has to be pulled back . I hate that. Itā€™s not natural for the children. Plus, Gloria has always gone home for weekends with children.

And then Connor (the child who adores Gloria) begged to take Gloria home for Christmas. I caved. I might be in trouble, but I donā€™t care. I did the right thing. This will mean the world to Connor, and to Gloria. ā¤ļø

  9. L. Marie says:

    Wow! Christmas snow is here!

  10. John Kraft says:

Please keep all of the snow in your yard.

  11. Brrrr. Looks like a roaring fire would come in handy.

  12. Lovely video, Jennie, thanks! I lived in the winter snow for most of my life and still miss it sometimes. Course, I wasn’t the one usually doing the cleanup work, so that makes a difference:)

    • Jennie says:

Thanks, Becky. Where did you live? Hubby and I split the snow blowing. By February… the joy of snow has lost itā€™s luster. But now, it is delightful. šŸ™‚

      • Most recently, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, so LOTS of snow. One year, we had so much that the snow blower couldn’t throw it any higher. The walkway from the driveway to the back door felt almost like a tunnel. We had to hire someone with a truck to haul part of it away:)

      • Jennie says:

I remember the year the snow was higher than the snowblower. We also had to get a roof rake. Michigan gets lots of snow!

  13. petespringerauthor says:

Merry Christmas, Jennie. I’m about to do the Covid test as we’re going to be with a group of six (including our son, who we haven’t seen since February.)

    • Jennie says:

Merry Christmas to you, Pete. We havenā€™t seen our son since last Thanksgiving, so I know how you are feeling. Not seeing the grandchildren is the hardest part. I am SO glad (understatement) you will be getting together with your group and your son. That makes me very, very happy!

  14. A lovely thought, Jennie; and the same to you. What a year it’s been, eh? Wonderful video, btw.

  15. Have a Magical Merry Christmas! šŸŽ„šŸ’ž

  16. we got snow here too, not as much as MA, but more than our normal snowfall. We have snow in the forecast for Christmas eve and Christmas morning. I love waking up to new snow on Christmas day and since we won’t be traveling I’ll enjoy it even more. Hope you enjoy the wonder of your new fallen snow and the holiday season

  17. Oh how I do miss me a good snow! Thanks for the gander out your home windows.

  18. Wow you have so much snow already!! I do hope we get snow here in Oregon this year ā„ļøā›„ļøā¤ļø

  19. The snow is lovely, and I agree–it’s at least some consolation for spending the holidays alone. We’re working construction in Tahoe next week, and I’m looking forward to seeing the snow-capped vistas, both large and small (and besides, the superintendent has promised wicked good propane heaters).

  20. Sarah says:

Wow! That’s a lot of confectioner’s sugar Mother Nature put on your trees and lawn, Jennie. šŸ˜‰ Enjoy your white Christmas!

  21. Elizabeth says:

Here our polar bear light display looks right at home with snow up to her midsection. Happy snow here too. Light and easy to snowblow.

  22. TanGental says:

I must say, if the forecast is right ours with be green and dank, but it will be as Merry as the latest lockdown allows. Have a good one, Jennie.

  23. Thank you for sharing your winter wonderland with us, Jennie! The snow prettified our place as well.

Sure looks a winter wonderland Jennie. We’re told we ‘may’ have a white Christmas, so far not. Wishing you a safe and happy, cozy holiday season. ā¤

  31. I miss the beauty of snow, Jennie, but not the clean up! Enjoy all the blessings of winter. Stay warm and peaceful and have a wonderful holiday. Hugs. ā¤

    • Jennie says:

I know what you mean! By the time February arrives, the snow and cleanup has lost itā€™s luster, unless youā€™re a skier. But for now, the first snowfalls are glorious. Best to you, Diana. šŸ’•

  32. How amazing is this! I love the snowman butler. šŸ˜‰ Fantastic, there is snow in New England, but nothing of this in the namegiving country. šŸ™‚ Michael

  33. Kally says:

    Your post is so delightful!

  34. Our Christmas’ are never white, Jennie. They are always during the summer. I like the idea of a white Christmas, but I’m not sure the reality would be as nice.

  35. Ren says:

Bless you, Jennie! Stay safe and warm. Injoy the solitude of nature this season and may Joy continue to fill and expand your heart. Love ya!
