About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

What a wonderful quote. Every school should have that.
My children loved their bedtime stories. It was a highlight of the day. A time to be close and to delight in the wonders of stories.

I wish every family had a bedtime reading ritual. As you know, it is far more than merely reading a book together. The quote really should hang in every school. Yes

That’s a great quote, from a man who knows how to tell a story.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Oh I agree with that Jennie, I loved my story time in the junior school, It was how I got hooked on books.. The book I remember most vividly being read by our head teacher was The Borrowers.. So fired up my imagination of little folk living beneath the floor boards.. 😀

Have a wonderful Easter Break.. And thank you so much for your recent warm well wishes Jennie, I so appreciated them.. ❤
    Much LOVE ..
    Sue xx ❤

This is a beautiful idea and such a lovely drawing, Jennie. This is perfect for certain schedules, while we had to change ours to have active time before bus travel home. 🚃 🚍
I loved reading stories halfway through each of the (am and pm) class sessions. Our schedule was lessons, circle, centers, a snack in the morning with storytime and then playground. 👭👬👯
Sending preschoolers off on their buses sometimes half hour length so they Needed exercise (not sitting still for a book or chapter) before travel time!

Perfect schedule for the little ones, Robin. Middle of class time fits in perfectly. My class is a full day, so I read a picture book middle of the morning, chapter reading before rest, and picture books (group or individual) before the final playground time at the end of the day.

Wow, your day has so much to offer, Jennie! I’m glad you didn’t mind my mentioning my “old schedule,” which was like a dream come true. . .
With sixth grade, back awhile before my preschool days, I chose mid-day after the lunch/recess times.
It centered them and helped to program their brains to focus and listen. . . 🙂

The best timing. Your old schedule is perfect. We are tuned into this! Brain focus!! 🙂

Brain focus and somehow two teachers (far apart) who were able to grasp the importance of schedules and children’s rhythms and patterns, Jennie. I hope to think this at least helps me better with my dear grandies. 💞

Yes! Great minds think alike? Ha! Well, great teachers think alike. You are the best, and your grandies already know that. ❤️
