Love Note

“Dear Jennie, I can’t wait to see you.  But I don’t see you much.  So I am so happy to see you and I will see you the rest of the day.  Jennie I love you so much.”

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

        I will have fun watching my grandson and his friends celebrating by jumping around Sky Zone! He turns 9 on 2-27 while Rich, my teaching +running brother turns 59 that day! This weekend is party time!! 🎈🎉🎈

        Party and birthday weekend all the way around! Today our granddaughter turns 10, and Monday our grandson turns 8. And, both of our children had their birthdays last week. Crazy! Enjoy your festivities, Robin. 🎈🎊🎁

        Have a happy Saturday and hip hip hooray for all the Scarlett’s in the world! My favorite students were a “rotten” Christopher and an “angelic” Diana. Just so sweet that Both changed through my first year of teaching 6th grade Language Arts. 📖✨📒

    If children learn to say thank you at an early age, they will always be grateful. This is so special. I’m sure you will save this.

    Very sweet! My youngest wrote her reading log this week and is meant to write 2 sentences. She couldn’t think of anything to write for the next sentence, so wrote to her teacher – I love you. How could anyone resist that?

    Ah, Jennie. That is so gorgeous. I have a whole collection of letters like this from students, parents and colleagues. Many of them I put into a folder I call my “Feel good about myself folder” and any day I was feeling down and wondering what contribution I was making, I would take it out and remind myself. It’s a good, quick and effective way of getting back into the right frame of mind. I always responded to the notes I received too, and often wrote the children little notes telling them how special they were. I’d put them on their desks for them to find when they came in in the morning. I think they treasure them as I do mine.

    So much fun to get a real letter and such a heartfelt one, too. If your current students were witness to your reaction to Scarlett’s letter, I’ll bet it left a deep impression on them, wishing and hoping that they too will someday be able to write such a letter!

      It was SO much fun! Other children were there to watch and enjoy the moment, and the photo being taken. I think you’re right; it probably left an impression and a desire to write. When we asked the children last week what they wanted to be able to do, many said read and write! Thanks a blog post coming up this week.
