starry-sky-1948523_640Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin – find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

Lovely, Jennie. That is one of my favourite paintings, and Maya Angelou is one of the most inspirational people I know. This is a great quote and a wonderful pairing. Thank you for sharing.

I thought the pairing was perfect, too. Two of my favorites. Did you know that Maya Angelou wrote a children’s book? Best to you, Norah.

Yes, I own Maya Angelou’s children’s book “My Painted House, My Friendly Chicken, and Me”. I saw it first in the art gallery in New York but ordered it when I got home. It’s gorgeous and should be in every library. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂

Thank you for your kind words, Debbie. The only poster I have hanging in my classroom is Starry Night. The rest is children’s art. This art has inspired so many children! Many blog posts on Starry Night. ❤️🌟
