The day after Christmas
was a full moon to the east
with a deep blue sky.

I thought about the Christmas Star
and stopped to remember the Three Wise Men.
To the west was a beautiful sunset and a contrail.
Vertical and horizontal, together.

I thought about people and opposites,
getting along.
The sky was telling me so.
Then, I passed by my favorite barn.

I have no words, just beautiful feelings.
Somehow I know the ‘day after’ was special,
perhaps hollering,
“Look at me.”
Thank goodness I did.

About Jennie
I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
Beautiful prose, Jennie! I’m glad you stopped to look too.
Thank you, Deborah!
Really pretty – your words and the beautiful show in the sky match so well
Thank you, Beth! I was quite moved by the sky tonight. I’m glad my words match the sky.
So much is about the moment, and you captured yours well in words and images.
Yes, the moment can be powerful. Thank you, Frank. I’m glad I captured it.
Beautiful, Jennie! This made me happy.
I’m so glad, Luanne. Thank you!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Your poem has left me with a warm feeling and a smile.
I am so glad, Liz. Thank you!
You’re welcome, Jennie!
Accepting people for who they are is the only answer if we plan to get back to basic human decency.
Now, that was powerful and very true! Best to you, Pete.
A heart warming poem, Jennie.
Thank you, John.
😊
Beautiful! Happy days, Jennie!
Thank you, Norah!

Thank you, Ritu! 🥰
Wonderful, Jennie. The day after – all is peaceful, even Santa…

Yes, it is! I’m sure Santa is still peacefully sleeping. Thank you, GP.
The cold moon is the 13th full moon this year and it’s stunning. I see it every morning and evening as I walk inside the building. I can get the best views from upstairs. Keep looking up. 🙂
It really is stunning! Yes, I will keep looking up.
beautiful thoughts
Thank you.
Although Christmas Day is very special, it is also quite hectic and there isn’t much time to sit and contemplate. That’s why I like Boxing Day or the day after. A perfect time to sit and notice things, put up your feet, relax, read and eat leftovers. It just might be my favourite day.
I think you are absolutely right! This was just like my own little Boxing Day. The best. Thanks, Darlene!
Hi Jennie, this is beautiful!
Thank you so much!
A lovely experience, Jennie
Yes, it was. Thank you, Robbie. BTW, how is Michael doing after surgery and recovery?
Hi Jennie, so far, it seems good. He still has a little pain but says his nose is clear. Checkup is on 11 Jan. Thank you for asking 🙏
That’s good news, Robbie. I’ll be thinking of him on the 11th.
What beautiful pictures! It has been nothing but fog, rain and ennui here for the last week.
Same here, except that day. Thank you, Pam.
Beautiful photos, Jennie and I love your interpretation.
Thanks so much, Dan!
