Oh No – Not Yet

No!  No!  You are not supposed to turn red – yet.  I love fall and the beautiful red leaves… just not yet.  It’s the end of August, and you are welcome in October.  Not now.

What?  Your tree has more?  My heart is sinking.

I’m hanging on to summer as long as I can.

This is what I want to see at the end of the day.  Yes, it is short lived.  l’ll enjoy every one of these days.

In October I will treasure your beautiful and colorful leaves.  I promise.  Just not now.

About Jennie

I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about. I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

I agree, fall is lovely, but in October! We don’t really get a fall/autumn here in Spain, just milder summer days in September, October and November. It is nice though. Enjoy what’s left of your wonderful summer. xo

Now that you live in Spain, do you miss fall? Canada is beautiful that time of year. I imagine their summers are short, too. It looks like we have Indian Summer next week. Yahoo!!

beautiful pics, Jennie and yes, it is slowing arriving. it’s my fav season, but summer always seems too short )

A friend sent me pictures of the leaves turning in his backyard. I’M NOT READY! Of course, I said that at the beginning of August and nobody paid me any mind.

Looks like you have a nice week ahead to use that pool, Jennie. We’re going to see a return to the 90s. Don’t worry about the tease from the next season.

We are set to get a brief return to warmer weather and blue skies next week, but the leaves have been falling here for more than 2 weeks already. I hope the forecast is correct, as we will be on holiday from Monday.
    Best wishes, Pete.

Quite agree! We’ve had a lousy summer! It’s cold.

  8. Elizabeth's avatar Elizabeth says:

We always remember that at the first of September fall sneaks in. It is consoling in the heat waves of July. Happy autumn to you too.

  9. Hoo boy. Haven’t seen a leaf change colors here in SoCal yet, but I’m on the lookout.

  10. I agree about the “Oh, no.” I love summer, and this one seemed to have fewer days to be outside because of smoke, weather, and work.

  11. Our drought is giving us an early fall. Sad to see.

  12. Ritu's avatar Ritu says:

I love autumn, but I agree that it is far too early, yet!

  13. This year I can’t wait for summer to be over. It was way too warm and so many people had to deal with extreme heat and drought.

Seems impossible. Everything that people told me about time going faster feels true as I’ve gotten older.

  15. I’m with you, Jennie! Our leaves are turning, and it’s way too soon.

  16. Autumn is creeping in while we are still focused on abnormally hot temps everywhere. I think it tries to sneak in under the radar. Nothing seems to be going in a “normal” pattern anymore. I do love the fall though.

  17. Norah's avatar Norah says:

Your summer is leaving too soon. Ours is coming too quickly. Our wattle ‘should’ flower in September. The past few years it flowered in August. This year it flowered in July. Spring is over before it begins, it seems. Summer is knocking down the door.

  18. I’m with you! Our Fire Maple’s beautiful red leaves are faded and dropping off already, and yesterday was cold and gray followed by an afternoon and evening of pouring rain! I want more summer too!

  19. sjhigbee's avatar sjhigbee says:

I know exactly what you mean!! We’ve hips and haws already ripening – which is all sorts of wrong at the end of August/beginning of September…

  20. L. Marie's avatar L. Marie says:

Some of the leaves on the tree close to my apartment have turned yellow. I’m not ready for fall! I will cling to summer!

  21. srbottch's avatar srbottch says:

Hang in there, Jennie. I’m sending a heat wave your way from western NY. Should be there for the holiday. Enjoy!

  22. Beautiful and lovely flowers Jennie 🌹

Oh no Jennie. I hope it’s not contagious. 🙂 xx

  24. Moreoutdoor's avatar Jupiter says:

Yes we’ve started to see the leaves turn, embracing each season. They seem to be coming around more quickly, now retired?

  25. Hi Jennie. Our trees have red leaves now and it is spring 🤷‍♀️

  26. Here it’s the same. Most of the leaves of our cherry tree have also changed to autumn design. ;-/ Let’s hope we will not get an early and horrible long winter. Best wishes, Michael
