No! No! You are not supposed to turn red – yet. I love fall and the beautiful red leaves… just not yet. It’s the end of August, and you are welcome in October. Not now.
What? Your tree has more? My heart is sinking.

I’m hanging on to summer as long as I can.

This is what I want to see at the end of the day. Yes, it is short lived. l’ll enjoy every one of these days.
In October I will treasure your beautiful and colorful leaves. I promise. Just not now.

About Jennie
I have been teaching preschool for over forty years. This is my passion. I believe that children have a voice, and that is the catalyst to enhance or even change the learning experience. Emergent curriculum opens young minds. It's the little things that happen in the classroom that are most important and exciting. That's what I write about.
I was a live guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show. I am highlighted in the seventh edition of Jim Trelease's million-copy bestselling book, "The Read-Aloud Handbook" because of my reading to children. My class has designed quilts that hang as permanent displays at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the Fisher House at the Boston VA Hospital, and the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
I agree, fall is lovely, but in October! We don’t really get a fall/autumn here in Spain, just milder summer days in September, October and November. It is nice though. Enjoy what’s left of your wonderful summer. xo
Now that you live in Spain, do you miss fall? Canada is beautiful that time of year. I imagine their summers are short, too. It looks like we have Indian Summer next week. Yahoo!!
I don’t really miss fall, although I do like it and often go back to Canada at that time for a visit. I just don’t like snow and cold and that is always a risk in the fall in Canada. Enjoy your Indian summer.
I feel the same way. Indian summer is ahead this week.
beautiful pics, Jennie and yes, it is slowing arriving. it’s my fav season, but summer always seems too short )
My fave, too… Like you, I just want a little more summer. Next week we’re in the 90’s, which is rare up here for September. Bring it on!
Same!
A friend sent me pictures of the leaves turning in his backyard. I’M NOT READY! Of course, I said that at the beginning of August and nobody paid me any mind.
Looks like you have a nice week ahead to use that pool, Jennie. We’re going to see a return to the 90s. Don’t worry about the tease from the next season.
We are set to get a brief return to warmer weather and blue skies next week, but the leaves have been falling here for more than 2 weeks already. I hope the forecast is correct, as we will be on holiday from Monday.
Best wishes, Pete.

Quite agree! We’ve had a lousy summer! It’s cold.
We always remember that at the first of September fall sneaks in. It is consoling in the heat waves of July. Happy autumn to you too.
It is, and another heat wave will arrive soon. After that I’ll be ready for autumn.
Hoo boy. Haven’t seen a leaf change colors here in SoCal yet, but I’m on the lookout.
They’re sneaking in! 😀
I agree
🙂
I agree about the “Oh, no.” I love summer, and this one seemed to have fewer days to be outside because of smoke, weather, and work.
Yes, it did. We had plenty (too much) of rain. I guess the red leaf liked that.
Our drought is giving us an early fall. Sad to see.
Yes, it’s sad to see. BTW, of all the wonderful books you have written, which is a sequel to My GRL? Hubby is chomping at the bit. Best to you, John.
His Revenge is the second book and Our Justice is the third. Tell hubby thanks. I’m glad he liked it.
Thank you!!! I have a happy hubby.😀
I’m so glad.
Me, too!
😊
I love autumn, but I agree that it is far too early, yet!
Yes!!
This year I can’t wait for summer to be over. It was way too warm and so many people had to deal with extreme heat and drought.
There were many places and people who suffered this summer. Terrible.
Seems impossible. Everything that people told me about time going faster feels true as I’ve gotten older.
Exactly!
I’m with you, Jennie! Our leaves are turning, and it’s way too soon.
And you have more fall leaves than we do! Sigh…
Autumn is creeping in while we are still focused on abnormally hot temps everywhere. I think it tries to sneak in under the radar. Nothing seems to be going in a “normal” pattern anymore. I do love the fall though.
Weather really seems far more pronounced this year, from heat to fires to flooding. And yes, I love fall the best, just wish it would wait a bit longer to arrive.
Everything feels a little off lately. I’m more than ready for fall over the heat we have had up here.
I bet you are!
Your summer is leaving too soon. Ours is coming too quickly. Our wattle ‘should’ flower in September. The past few years it flowered in August. This year it flowered in July. Spring is over before it begins, it seems. Summer is knocking down the door.
Oh, no!! It seems the weather everywhere has been extreme, from fires to floods to heat. This is really an early summer for Australia. Sigh… What is a wattle?
Wattle is a beautiful native flowering bush, shrub or tree. An acacia. There are many varieties. The Golden Wattle is our national flower. It’s the reason for the gold in the uniforms of most of sporting teams.

I did not know this. Thank you, Norah! The flower is beautiful.
It is. 🙂
I’m with you! Our Fire Maple’s beautiful red leaves are faded and dropping off already, and yesterday was cold and gray followed by an afternoon and evening of pouring rain! I want more summer too!
Oh, how sad. I’m not alone. And, when winter creeps in too early (I love fall), I will feel the same way.
I know exactly what you mean!! We’ve hips and haws already ripening – which is all sorts of wrong at the end of August/beginning of September…
Exactly!
Some of the leaves on the tree close to my apartment have turned yellow. I’m not ready for fall! I will cling to summer!
Me, too!
Hang in there, Jennie. I’m sending a heat wave your way from western NY. Should be there for the holiday. Enjoy!
It will arrive on time, tomorrow! 😀
Is your pool open to guests? Thank you, I’ll be there😎
Yes! 😎
Beautiful and lovely flowers Jennie 🌹
Thank you, Kamal.
Always welcome Jennie 😊
Oh no Jennie. I hope it’s not contagious. 🙂 xx
Exactly!
🙂 We had a heatwave today for one day – almost 100 with humidity. Prior to today, I was wearing the winter furries at night, lol. 🙂
Go figure, right?
You said it. 🙂
Yes we’ve started to see the leaves turn, embracing each season. They seem to be coming around more quickly, now retired?
Yes, they do.
Hi Jennie. Our trees have red leaves now and it is spring 🤷♀️
Oh my!
Here it’s the same. Most of the leaves of our cherry tree have also changed to autumn design. ;-/ Let’s hope we will not get an early and horrible long winter. Best wishes, Michael
I know what you mean! Yes, please not a horrible or early winter!
